Attorney at Law –She-Hulk: Episode 5 Recap & Review

The first part of She-Hulk episode 5 is a recap of how she catfished that guy and made it look like it was his fault. Jen finds out that Titania is suing her for using the name “She-Hulk” after she says goodbye to “hot doctor cliché.” Now, Titania is selling a new line of expensive skin care, beauty, and wellness products under this name. It’s also everywhere, since her brand sponsors podcasts and is talked about in the news.

Jen comes to see Titania and tells her to put everything away. And she doesn’t, of course. Jennifer thinks about taking her to court as she tries to figure out what to do.

Nikki goes to see a man named Alonzo who works as a Drip Broker. She goes to a Boba Cafe, where Nikki talks to a worker in Chinese. Even though he is not Chinese, he takes the two to the back room and shows them fake Avengers stuff.

Jen talks about what’s going on with the She-Hulk brand while Nikki sets up a meeting with Alonzo to help her with her clothes. Her boss is quick to point out that this is a problem that needs to be fixed quickly. Jen says that she never thought about trademarking the name “She-Hulk” (I mean, she hated it to begin with, didn’t she? (Why not just pick a different name?)

Jen is told that she needs to file a countersuit and prove that she was using the name “She-Hulk” professionally before the trademark date and that Titania is making money off of name recognition. She is also told to clean up and that she needs new clothes.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – Episode 5

Titania’s lawyer makes some really good points in court, like how Jen’s interest in the She-Hulk name only became a problem when Titania started making money from it. They even have video of her saying, “I won’t answer that because that isn’t my name.” Jen’s lawyer shows another video of her saying that this is her real name and that she’s proud of it.

They take a break until Thursday, when the judge tells Jen that she needs to show more times when she chose to use that name. She went on a few dates as She-Hulk instead of her real name, Jen Walters, when she used the catfish dating profile. Jennifer is horrified to realize that she will have to bring all the men she dated into the courtroom to prove her point.

The hot doctor guy is back, and he says that Jen is not his type, so he would never date her. The judge agrees with Jennifer, so she can keep using the name “She-Hulk,” while Titania must stop doing business under this name. Jen is shown to be the victim, and her lawyer tells her she can “do better. You deserve better.”

The two of them go out for a drink and talk about how bad men are. Jen goes back to see Alonzo and get her suit in the end. We don’t actually see it, but at the end of the episode, we get a quick look at the new daredevil mask. It seems that Matt Murdoch is also one of Alonzo’s clients.

Review of the Episode

Aside from Jen’s catfishing in the last episode, which showed how morals can be twisted, She-Hulk episode 5 is just… boring. The legal drama is badly written, because I don’t think character witnesses would be enough to stop legal paperwork that has already been filed and would have needed to be approved anyway. I’m not a lawyer, so I can’t say for sure, but it seems kind of easy, doesn’t it?

Again, there is no comedy, except for one joke about Shrek that pokes fun at how bad the CGI can sometimes look, and Jen’s character doesn’t change at all. Jen gets a glimmer of hope in court when she finds out that the doctor doesn’t want to date her because she’s not his type… before that is quickly thrown out and Jen goes back to being herself.

This show has been going downhill for a while, and it’s safe to say that most people are still watching to see what the writers do with Daredevil. Given what they did with “Wongers” and “Abomination,” I don’t have much hope that they’ll do his character justice.

We hope that next week’s episode will be better, but so far this run has been pretty bad.

Episode 4:

Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) was hired by Wong (Benedict Wong) in Episode 4 of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” to deal with Donny Blaze, a former student of the Mystic Arts (Rhys Coiro). Walters lost the case, though, because there was no law that said someone couldn’t do real or fake magic. But Donny’s win turned out to be a loss because he opened a portal to a dimension with small demon monsters by accident. So, Donny had to ask Wong for help to figure out what to do. And because there were too many monsters, Wong had to stop Jennifer’s date with Arthur (Michel Curiel) and make her fight them. Once that was done, Wong gave her back to Arthur right away. The next day, though, Titania (Jameela Jamil) sued Jennifer for calling herself the She-Hulk, even though that name was already trademarked.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – Episode 5

Nikki And Pug Get An Appointment With Superhero Suit-Maker Alonzo

In the beginning of Episode 5, “Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans,” Jennifer notices that Titania is advertising a lot to make sure that the name “She-Hulk” is only associated with her. Cousin Ched (Nicholas Cirillo) even buys a bunch of Titania’s stuff, thinking it has something to do with Jennifer, and brings it to her house to get it signed. You know, so that he can sell them and make some money. But Jennifer tells him that they are not hers but Titania’s. Ched reminds her that she should have trademarked her own superhero name before Titania, as if she hadn’t thought of it a hundred times already. At that point, the title card changes from “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” to “She-Hulk by Titania,” which is the only joke that is always funny.

Jennifer and Nikki (Ginger Gonzaga) decide to send Titania a warning by going to her fan convention and telling her to stop selling fake She-Hulk products under the brand name. Titania clearly says no. So, Jennifer tries to persuade herself that she never wanted to be called the She-Hulk. So, it doesn’t bother her if other people use that name. But the way she stomps on her stapler in anger shows that she is upset about the whole thing with her name. Nikki and Augustus’ Pug’ Pugliese (Josh Segarra) go to a boba cafe, which turns out to be a front for Alonzo’s (Griffin Matthews) superhero costume business, while Jennifer deals with her anger issues. But the guy at the front desk doesn’t just let them in like that. Nikki and Pug can’t talk to Alonzo until they buy a bunch of fake Avengers stuff. When Nikki says that She-Hulk is an Avenger, Alonzo agrees to a 15-minute meeting.

Jennifer Comes Up With An Idea To Win Her Case Against Titania

Holden Holliway (Steve Coulter) tells Jennifer that she needs to get the name “She-Hulk” back from Titania because that name is associated with GLK and H’s superhero division. Jennifer’s lawyer is Mallory Book, played by Renée Elise Goldsberry. Book’s first question to Walters is the same question that everyone else has been asking: why didn’t she trademark her own pseudonym? Walters says that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange or Chris Hemsworth’s Thor never had to do that. So, it makes sense that she didn’t think about it. Book tells her that those aren’t their names as superheroes. This is what their real names are. She says that they are going to sue Titania back by saying that Jennifer was already using the name “She-Hulk” professionally before the trademark date. And Titania is just making money off of how popular that name is on the market. She also tells Jennifer that she should dress better to show that she respects herself.

Mallory says all of these things on the first day of the hearing to show why Jennifer deserves to be called “She-Hulk.” The lawyer for Titania says that Jennifer has said in public that she doesn’t want to be linked to that name. Mallory responds by showing the clipping where Jennifer says that it doesn’t matter if she likes her superhero name or not because she has to live with it. The judge asks Mallory to show that Jennifer’s name has always been linked to “She-Hulk.” If she fails, she will have to be on Titania’s side. When Jennifer and Nikki get back to their office after a short meeting with Alonzo about her superhero suits, they find out that Todd (Jon Bass), the guy from one of Jennifer’s dates, is one of their biggest clients. Even though he seems as creepy as ever, it gives Jennifer the idea to bring in her dates as witnesses because she went out with them as the She-Hulk.
