In 1997, Daboll was hired as a restricted earnings coach by the College of William & Mary. He was a graduate assistant at Michigan State University from 1998 to 1999.

In 2000, when he was 24, Daboll became an assistant defensive coach for the New England Patriots. He worked for Bill Belichick, who was the team’s new head coach at the time. This was the first time he coached in the NFL.

Josh McDaniels was moved to be an assistant on the defence, so the Patriots promoted Daboll to be the wide receivers coach in 2002. He left the Patriots at the end of the 2006 season to become the quarterbacks coach for the New York Jets.

On February 6, 2012, the Kansas City Chiefs said that they had hired Daboll to replace Bill Muir as offensive coordinator.

Daboll had worked for the New England Patriots with Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel, general manager Scott Pioli, and quarterback Matt Cassel. The New England Patriots said on January 14, 2013, that he would be back as a coach for the rest of the Patriots’ 2012–13 season. Daboll was part of the coaching staff for the Patriots when they won Super Bowl LI on February 5, 2017. The Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons 34–28 in overtime.

Daboll started coaching in the NFL in 2000 as a defensive coaching assistant for the New England Patriots. In 2002, he was promoted to wide receivers coach for the Patriots. He left the Patriots after the 2006 season to become the quarterbacks coach for the Jets.

1997

The College of William & Mary hired Daboll as a restricted earnings coach in 1997. From 1998 to 1999, he worked as a graduate assistant at Michigan State University.
