Dave Hahn: Who Is He?
Dave was born on November 3, 1961, in Okinawa, Japan, but his family later migrated to the US, and he spent his formative years in California, New York, and New Mexico. Interestingly, Dave’s initial preference wasn’t to become a mountain guide or expedition leader; instead, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in History from the State University of New York at Buffalo. But after graduating, his father led him on an adventure to the top of Mount Rainier, which introduced him to the allure of the mountains. Dave met various guides and leaders on the journey who assisted him in finding his passion, and by the end of it, he was eager to make his goal come true. He began his career as a ski patroller in 1985 after receiving the required credentials, and he was driven to excel in his line of work.
Dave eventually advanced to the position of guide, and his background enabled him advance to the position of expedition leader. Additionally, he has worked for a number of businesses over the course of his career, with significant examples including Fathom Expeditions, Angel Fire, Taos Ski Valley, and Rainier Mountaineering. By chance, Dave was at the Everest base camp in 2015 when the earthquake hit Nepal. The seasoned mountaineer later remarked that despite having experienced numerous disasters over his profession, the death and destruction caused in Nepal were simply unimaginable. Since he was in the base camp, he too had to escape while navigating avalanches and watching as people around him fell to their deaths. However, Dave’s knowledge and good fortune eventually guided him away from danger, allowing him to escape the jaws of death.

Dave Hahn: Where Is He Now?
Currently, Dave is a renowned mountaineer and expedition leader who has made a record-breaking 15 summit ascents of Everest out of a total of 21 attempts, making him the only American to do so. He also led expeditions to Everest and South Georgia in addition to making numerous journeys to the summits of Vinson Massif and Denali. Readers may also be shocked to learn that the knowledgeable guide has written for Outside Magazine and was a member of the Mallory and Irvine Expedition that located George Mallory’s missing body.
Dave, who is already 60 years old, continues to lead expeditions and is just as passionate about mountaineering today as he was when he first started. However, according to insiders, Dave has declined to guide any additional climbs up Mount Everest following the tragedy in Nepal. Despite this, he appears to live in Taos and works as a ski patroller. According to accounts, Dave has been supervising the training of a new generation of mountain guides. To put it mildly, Dave’s extraordinary life is incredibly inspirational, and we wish him nothing but the best in the years to come.
