Iowa state park shooting victims, Tyler Schmidt and Sarah Schmidt

Tyler Schmidt and Sarah Schmidt, residents of Cedar falls got slain inside their tent on Friday Morning at the Maquoketa Caves.

According to a Facebook post by the mayor of Cedar Falls, a 9-year-old child escaped the shooting on Friday morning that murdered his parents and sister as they were camping in Maquoketa Caves State Park.

The Maquoketa Caves State Park murder was given to conclusion by Anthony Orlando Sherwin, 23, who lately identified by the police. He killed a family of three and then killed himself. According to the authorities, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation were informed of a triple homicide at the Maquoketa Caves State Park campground at 6:23 a.m. on Friday. Three dead bodies were discovered by the police.

 Officers later discovered that a camper was missing. West of the park, according to the authorities, Sherwin was found dead. They claimed that he looked to have shot himself.

DCI Assistant Director Mitch Mortvedt informed Law&Crime over the phone that this location had a lot of trees. Investigators don’t think Sherwin, who is from Nebraska, had any prior connections to the victims. The public is not at risk, according to the police.

 According to Mortvedt, the early stage of the investigation was centered on identifying the perpetrators after the first three victims were discovered. They were unsure at first if the missing Sherwin was a suspect. Authorities are attempting to identify the victims and ascertain the cause of the incident after discovering Sherwin deceased and designating him as the suspect.

Mortvedt made no indication of a reason. He said that the three victims belonged to a different campsite than Sherwin did. Mortvedt said it was unclear whether these murders were premeditated or whether Sherwin and the victims were acquainted.
