Mary Ann Langley was James Langley’s wife, and the couple had a home in Norwalk, Connecticut, located at 126 Woodward Avenue. The city is in the state of Connecticut. On December 14, 2006, the neighbors of the Langleys called the Norwalk Police Department’s 911 hotline to report a case of individual burning. The incident occurred at the Langleys’ home. The officers arrived at the location at approximately 5:00 am and saw a peculiar sight when they arrived.
When the investigators saw James attempting to drive his automobile in the driveway in an erratic manner, they approached the moving vehicle as soon as they made the discovery. James immediately informed the authorities that he had sustained severe burns and was in need of rapid medical assistance after seeing them. When the cops arrived at the property, they did not find any evidence of a fire at the time, therefore they questioned where James had been burned.
As soon as James lifted his shirt, he was able to see that he had significant burn marks on his body and belly. After promptly calling for medical assistance, the officers took James to the hospital to receive treatment from the emergency medical personnel who had been called in by the officers. He succumbed to the severity of his burns while he was being treated in the hospital, and he died as a result.

Who Killed James Langley?
After ensuring that James Langley was transferred to the hospital in a timely manner and that he was receiving care for his burns, the cops made the decision to investigate the cause of the emergency burns and thoroughly search the site. They went to the backyard of the house owned by the Langleys and there they discovered Mary. Following receipt of her signed agreement, the police entered the residence through the back door in order to conduct an investigation. Upon entering, they observed a potent odor of an accelerant, which was subsequently determined to be gasoline. In addition to that, they discovered a single used match, a book of matches near the kitchen sink, and charred carpeting in one of the bedrooms of the house.
After ensuring the safety of the crime scene, the detectives went to speak with Mary, who agreed to answer some questions about what she knew about her husband’s cause of death and the injuries that ultimately led to his passing. She admitted that she and her husband were the only people at home at the time of the tragedy; nevertheless, she denied having any obligations or information of how the event took place. However, the detectives began to notice significant inconsistencies and contradictions in her statements.
She had initially stated that she and James only experienced sporadic marital problems, but she later contradicted this statement by claiming that she faced such awful behavior from James that she had even wanted to stab him. This statement was made in response to the fact that she had initially stated that she and James only experienced sporadic marital problems. When James’ extramarital affair, which he had been conducting since September 2004, was brought to Mary’s attention, she, too, developed a healthy degree of suspicion. She asserted that she and James had never gotten into a fight about the affair, but her neighbors and other relatives refuted her claim. She said that they never argued about the affair.
However, the statement that was provided by Mary’s niece and nephew, Sheila Polite and Rodney Polite, who were also their near neighbors, was the most damning piece of evidence that could be used against her. They were startled awake in the early morning hours of December 14, 2006, by cries coming from the Langley, and they hurried over there to discover Mary sobbing and pleading for assistance. They found James in the kitchen, patting his stomach with a damp towel as they entered the house. James was visibly distressed.
Rodney observed that some of James’ abdominal skin looked to melt and hang, and the entire house smelled strongly of gasoline. He also noticed that James’ stomach appeared to be distended. James reportedly told them while gritting his teeth and wincing in excruciating pain that when he woke up, he realized that he was on fire. Rodney asserted that he was present when James made the following statement: “I know what occurred. Ann set me on fire.” Sheila asserted that she had overheard James say that “he was sleeping and he watched [Mary pour gasoline or something on him” and that “[he] watched [Mary] pour the liquid on him and ignite him on fire.” Sheila claimed that she had overheard James say these things.

Where is Mary Ann Langley Today?
Mary Ann Langley was taken into custody by the law enforcement personnel and accused with the homicide of her husband, James Langley. In spite of this, a jury acquitted her of the more serious accusation of first-degree murder in 2009, but found her guilty of the lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter and sentenced her to 20 years in prison for the crime. She filed an appeal, but it was unsuccessful and the case was closed in April 2011. The death certificate for Mary Ann Langley, which can be found at the city of Cumming, Georgia, lists the date of death as October 25th, 2021.
