Kevin Harlan’s Whopping $1 Million Net Worth As Sports Announcer

An American sports announcer for television and radio has a $1 million net worth from his decades-long career in the sports industry, according to Celebrity net worth.

He started his broadcasting career in 1982 as the Kansas City Kings’ TV and radio voice.

Up until 2008, Harlan was the voice of Westwood One Radio’s Final Four coverage. He began serving as Westwood One’s lead analyst for Monday Night Football in 2010 after calling Super Bowl XLV.

The longest stretch in television and radio network history, spanning 12 consecutive broadcasts, he covered Super Bowls XLV-LVI for Westwood One.

In addition, Harlan broadcast the Super Bowl XXXV HD live from CBS in 2001. He has also called the Packers’ home preseason games on the team’s statewide television network since 2003.

In 2017 and 2019, he was given the National Sportscaster of the Year award by his peers. Harlan has broadcast 13 Super Bowls and five Final Fours.

He is one of only three sportscasters—along with Dick Stockton and Marv Albert—to have appeared on more than 3,000 national network programs in their careers.

Sportscaster Harlan’s Annual Salary Worth $400,000

Clutchpoint claims that Harlan makes $400,000 a year as a sportscaster.

As the on-air personality of Monday Night Football and for his Super Bowl analysis, Kevin Harlan is well-known to everyone. At the moment, Harlan is the play-by-play announcer for the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament and NFL games on CBS Sports.

A fellow NBA analyst, Charles Barkley, reportedly earns around $1.5 million a year as a broadcaster for Tuner Sports, where he may have earned a decent livelihood.

Kevin’s salary and earnings may be close to a million dollars, even if he may not have earned as much money as Barkley.

In contrast, Barkley’s career is a collection of amazing successes and a living memorial to his commitment to hard effort both on and off the court. He transitioned from being a celebrated NBA player to a well recognized NBA analyst.

At High School Radio Station Harlan Began His Early Broadcasting Career

At Our Lady of Premontre High School, where he graduated from, Harlan began calling play-by-play for the school’s boys’ basketball, football, and ice hockey teams on WGBP-FM. Induction into the school’s Hall of Fame recently honored him.

When Harlan was a teenager, his father, Bob Harlan, who was an executive in the front office, hired him as a ball boy for the Green Bay Packers.

Kevin had planned to study communications or mass media at either the University of Notre Dame or the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but broadcaster Gary Bender personally persuaded his father, Bob, to enrol at the University of Kansas and its School of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Harlan’s passion for sports broadcasting was instantly apparent to Tom Hedrick, the Jayhawks’ primary basketball play-by-play announcer, and he saw potential in the young man.

In Harlan’s first year, Hedrick assigned him to a sideline position before advancing him to the position of his assistant and fill-in announcer on days when Hedrick had other commitments. Harlan also received a degree in broadcast journalism in 1982.

The Radio-Sports ANnouncer Became The Voice Of NBA’s Kansas City Kings

In 1982, shortly after receiving his degree from college, Harlan, then 22 years old, joined the television and radio broadcast team of the Kansas City Kings (now the Sacramento Kings).

He called basketball games for his alma university, the University of Kansas, for a year before spending several years, as an undergraduate, hosting and producing pre- and post-game programming. He then went on to announce games for the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL from 1985 through 1993.

Additionally, from 1986 to 1989, Harlan split his time between calling basketball and football games at the University of Missouri and working nine seasons as the NBA play-by-play announcer for the Minnesota Timberwolves (1989–98).

Harlan called NFL football for NBC in 1991, college football for ESPN in 1992–1993 and NFL football for Fox in 1994–1997.

His Basement Broadcast Studio In 2020

Kevin Harlan spent a lot of time in his furnished basement in 2020 during the COVID pandemic.

Harlan broadcast NBA games from the basement of his century-old home in Mission Hills, Kansas, as opposed to being courtside at locations like the American Airlines Arena in Miami or the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the Turner Sports commentator formerly found himself. The studio measures 15 by 8.

The Athletic claims that behind Harlan when he called games, there was an eight-foot “NBA on TNT” banner.

Then in front of Harlan, who was sitting in a Pottery Barn chair that his wife Ann had previously bought for a basement table, were two 32-inch monitors on a rectangular folding table.

Harlan connected to the official real-time score of his match straight from the arena as games were being played by using a laptop computer that was positioned in front of him.

The Sportscaster’s Century-Old Home In Mission Hills

For his work on the NBA 2K video game series during the COVID pandemic, Harlan already had a home office set up, according to The Athletic.

He arranges his recording gear—which consists of laptops and gaming consoles—at the rear of a sizable closet that is located outside the master bedroom. As he records, he can see Doris Burke and Clark Kellogg, two other game announcers.

The Harlans, however, realized they would need a lot more space than a closet to fulfill Turner’s dreams.

In addition, it took two members of CNN’s multimedia field engineering team four arduous days to set up Harlan’s home studio when they arrived here from Atlanta. Harlan claimed to have two field engineers with him in his basement when he called the first preseason game.

The 62-Years-Old Was Turner Sports Replacement For Marv Albert

Kevin Harlan took over for Marv Albert as the play-by-play announcer for the NBA Western Conference Finals on Turner Sports, according to Sports Business Journal.

In 1996, he signed on with Turner Sports to broadcast NBA playoff games. He began calling games for the entire season in 1997, and he continues to do so now.

With five Final Four broadcasts and 13 Super Bowl radio calls to his name, Harlan has “verbally crafted scenes for viewers and listeners on sports’ largest stages.”

Despite having a “excellent relationship and connection” with Reggie Miller, Harlan was “thrilled by the acquisition” of Stan Van Gundy.

The Harlan Family’s Earning And Career Revolves Around Sports industry

Kevin’s father served as the Sports Information Director at Marquette University for a number of years, thus the sports world is very important in his family. In contrast, his daughter Olivia’s husband, Sam Dekker, is a basketball player and she works as a sideline reporter.

She has a husband who plays basketball professionally with the London Lions of the British Basketball League (BBL) and the EuroCup. His name is Samuel Thomas Dekker.

She has also covered SEC and ACC football for FOX Sports South and Raycom, as well as sideline reporting for Packers TV Network preseason games. A daily web series about the Green Bay Packers’ training camp has also been co-hosted by Olivia.

With Olivia working as a sideline reporter and her father, Kevin, calling the game, the Harlans made history as the first father-daughter combo to do so in the NFL.

His Father Is The Chief Executive Of The Green Bay Packers

Robert E. Harlan served as chairman of the board and CEO of the Green Bay Packers, an American football team, in the past.

Harlan started working as the assistant general manager for the Green Bay Packers in 1971.

In the ensuing 18 years, he was promoted three times: in 1975 to corporate general manager, in 1981 to assistant to the president, and in 1988 to executive vice president of administration.

His tenure was marked by “some of the major changes in franchise history,” making him one of the “most influential—and successful—presidents in franchise history.”

The Harlans Founded The Madeline and Robert Harlan Humanitarian Fund

The Journal Sentinel reports that Bob Harlan and his wife Madeline have been in Green Bay since the early 1960s and are quite committed in the community.

The Harlans established the Madeline and Robert Harlan Humanitarian Fund to assist cancer patients without insurance. The establishment of this foundation was prompted by the diagnosis and treatment of Harlan’s melanoma in 2003.

While working on various boards and committees for both organizations, they also actively participated in fundraising campaigns for the cancer treatment centers and emergency departments at St. Mary’s and St. Vincent’s hospitals. At St. Mary’s, Madeline Harlan received a plaza in her honor.

She also went to nursing school and worked with sisters who shared her dedication to patient care during her clinical rotations at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
