Amateur sports
Farmer received his diploma from the Marist School in Atlanta, Georgia, where he participated in both baseball and football during his time there. Farmer’s role as a high school quarterback in the blockbuster Hollywood film The Blind Side (2009) was filmed while he was still a student at Marist.
Farmer played shortstop during his time at the University of Georgia (UGA), where he set a record for the best fielding % ever recorded at the shortstop position on the UGA Baseball team with a score of.968. His batting average was.308, and he hit for a batting average of.308.
In 2011, he was a member of the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he played summer baseball for his college team.
