Dave McKinley: Who Is He?
The fact that mountaineering wasn’t Dave McKinley’s first career choice might surprise readers. In truth, the New Zealander had a keen interest in the culinary arts, and in addition to having experience in the hotel industry, he had also completed professional chef training. According to sources, Dave was a highly certified and accomplished chef who eventually became weary of his job and began looking for justifications to live an active lifestyle outdoors. Dave eventually managed to escape the kitchen and understood he could make a life off of his love of the outdoors. So, in the late 1990s, after obtaining the necessary credentials, he started working as a guide.
Dave began his career as a tour guide in and around Queensland, where he quickly gained a reputation for his skill and knowledge. Although he was familiar with New Zealand’s mountain ranges, Dave opted to travel after becoming more well-known. He started traveling outside of his native nation as a result and became interested by the difficulties mountaineers encounter when conquering Mount Everest. Dave was inspired to pursue his aspirations by this fascination, and he quickly rose to the occasion.
Dave, incidentally, was present in Nepal during the 2015 earthquakes and personally saw the devastation. Despite being in a dangerous situation and in a mountainous area, Dave managed to escape unharmed. Later, he recalled how some people weren’t that fortunate and how the majority of survivors had lost a loved one or anything precious in the catastrophe. Dave went on to explain that it was an experience that opened his eyes and made him feel incredibly grateful for his life.

What’s become of Dave McKinley?
Dave continues to conduct trips in a number of other nations, including New Zealand, Australia, South America, Switzerland, France, Tibet, and Alaska, proving that the earthquake and the devastation were unable to change his passion for mountaineering. Nevertheless, despite having completed multiple Everest summits, Dave hasn’t climbed Everest since the disaster. Nevertheless, Dave’s career as an IFMGA Guide appears to be flourishing, and he currently serves as a guide for numerous organizations.
Because Dave is happily married to a former guide, readers will be happy to learn that he also leads a fairly tranquil personal life. The pair has created a great life together and is proud parents of three wonderful children. The family lives in Twizel, New Zealand, with their three dogs. We are extremely inspired by Dave’s mountain guiding career and wish him nothing but the best in the years to come.
