Ray Hadley’s Radio Career

2GB

Alan Jones, a fellow 2UE presenter, transferred from 2UE to 2GB in April 2002, and Hadley started anchoring the morning show as well. Hadley had come on board with 2GB in December 2001 to cover rugby league on the weekends; however, when Jones transferred from 2UE to 2GB, he also hosted the morning program.

Hadley’s talkback program initially emphasized regional and state-based current topics in the traditional manner, but it has now broadened its scope to cover federal politics. Without a question, his favored musical genre is country (both traditional and modern). The Wolverines’ song “Murrumbidgee” acts as Hadley’s opening theme, while instrumental rendition of “Last Date” by country pianist Floyd Cramer serves as the show’s closing theme.

A regional New South Wales station, a Queensland station, and portions of a Victoria station all carry the program that Hadley broadcasts from nine in the morning to noon. It can be heard on Brisbane’s 4BC and Canberra’s 2CC. Some of these stations are Southern Cross Austereo Triple M network members as well as Continuous Call Team broadcasting stations. The call letters of these stations can be used to identify them.

He attained the title of highest-rated radio presenter in all of Australian radio in May 2011 with a rating of 20.1% of the audience. He kept this title until it was supplanted by the highest-rated Ross and John breakfast program on rival number 3AW in Melbourne a year later.

On May 19, 2011, Hadley abruptly stopped a phone interview with Lee Jeloscek, a reporter for 7 News. Hadley found it offensive that Jeloscek wanted to change anything that he said was suggested on-air prior to the interview. Hadley interrupted Jeloscek in mid-sentence and instructed his audience to hold on. Hold on tight, hold on tight, hold tight, hold tight! Listen! Listen! Listen! Take my advice! Take my advice! Take my advice! Lee, good bye. Lee, you appear to have forgotten that this is the Ray Hadley morning show.

As of 2019, Hadley is recognized as having found Samoan country musician Sam Ah Chookoon, a.k.a. Mr. Cowboy 62.

Hadley received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the Queen’s Birthday 2002 Honours List in recognition of his contributions to rugby league and charitable organization fundraising efforts. Eight out of the previous eleven years’ “Rawards” recognized him as the finest radio sportscaster. These honors were presented as a result of the “Rawards” event.

Career on Television of Ray Hadley

Hadley began his career covering sports for Channel 7 before being enlisted by Channel 9 to work on The Footy Show. From 1994 to 1998, he co-hosted the program with Steve “Blocker” Roach, a radio personality and rugby league player. Additionally, he had a single appearance on The Footy Show in 2005 as a participant in a discussion that addressed the altercation and hostility that took place between Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Brisbane Broncos fans during a match that was played at Telstra Stadium. Hadley has been in television advertisements for Lowes, a retailer of affordable menswear, for the past 17 years.

2010 saw the hiring of Hadley by Sky News Australia to present a weekly current affairs show under the name Hadley! The program was only to be broadcast on Wednesday evenings. Hadley apparently left his job at Sky News Australia after just four episodes due to “differences” with the staff and their unwillingness to collaborate with him.

Hadley was engaged by Channel 9 in October 2011 to provide commentary for the Wallabies vs. All Blacks 2011 Rugby World Cup semi-final game, however he was not requested to return for more matches.

He returned to The Footy Show in 2012 as a panelist on the Five in the Bin segment. He gave commentary for Channel 9’s coverage of rugby league games that season alongside Peter Sterling and Paul Vautin.

Hadley was one of the network’s main play-by-play commentators before he left Channel 9 at the conclusion of 2018. He was mostly in charge of directing play during the Thursday and Friday night games.
