Arrested
According to a news statement published by the federal government Monday afternoon, he was arrested on Sunday as part of a partnership between the Mexican Army, Attorney General’s Office, National Intelligence Center, and National Guard.
On Sunday, military soldiers were conducting ground reconnaissance operations in the Hidalgo area of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, when clashes with cartel operators erupted.
Trevino Chavez was apprehended with two weapons that were only available to the Mexican Army and Air Force. He also had three arrest warrants: one for extortion and criminal association in the state of Tamaulipas, another for deliberate homicide and terrorism in the state of Coahuila, and another for drug trafficking conspiracy in the state of Coahuila.
The other assailants were able to avoid being apprehended.
Chavez Trevino was apprehended and put into custody by the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, or FEMDO as it is known in Mexico, before being given over to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will assess his legal status.
According to the news release, his arrest “represents a shattering blow to The Northeast Cartel’s dominance.”
The federal government is deploying more military personnel and aircraft to Nuevo Laredo as a result of the actions taken there. They are expected to arrive on Monday.
